| Thanks and the eyes always came out wrong because of the small space and the white 'melting' with the lightest color for his skin.

That's the wrong way to go about it. You need to know what the shades are going to be for first. Not everything green is shaded the exact same way, and you've also got to remmember that light source affects color (something that I'm currently learning).
