I have idea for this forum, we should have Spriting school Thread. Objective of this: someone could give out the assignment or project (in any sprite style) and people can give there grades for the sprite then they have to explain why they gave that grade, plus show, point out or give tips on how they can improve the sprite or improve in the style in gerenal.

I'm not going to vote yet, being the head staff-member and all, but I think this can be both a good and a bad idea depending on how it's going to held up, because it sounds more member-oriented than staff-run.

Spriting school Thread

There isn't a single person here fit to teach unless I've magically missed out on seeing ZX0.

LOL ZXO is a medicore spriter. Go to http://www.pixeljoint.com/ their biggest noob is 100% better than anyone you know of including ZXO. Emiskee was the best one I ever seen then I saw them back in '09 and I was like daaayuuum.
Anyways if anyone can teach I'd be willing to learn how to sprite better specifically JUS style.

As would I, it'd be cool to be able to finish Super Buu and make it look nice without having to constantly edit from buu/vegito <<

Spriting schools can be very helpful, I was part of one started by...um... I think it was triviumninja, and that helped me a lot. I know Chaosvii7 had a JUS school on some site... don't recall where. The question to me isn't whether it could help, but who would be most qualified to teach a school like that?

No spriting schools, they don't work. When you sprite, sometimes you're meant to learn from your mistakes and you get inspired from something if you're motivated enough to perfect yourself as much as possible. Nobody can spoon-feed you the skills and make you a top spriter. All of the responsibilities need to show on your part, such as part time studying and research.

True, but I've found that it can help some people if someone gives them projects to work on geared towards specific areas. For instance, one assignment should be mainly geared towards shading. Another, you could emphasize anatomy. As the students sprite more and improve their skills, they can be assigned more difficult projects to combine the different elements of spriting until they're capable of doing it all. If they focus on one key point at a time, that could help them improve overall.

You have to remember that different people learn in different ways. Some people, like myself, learn mainly through trial and error, with a push in the right direction here and there. Other people learn best with someone helping them along, giving them advice.

Isn't the point of a sprite school to pinpoint your weaknesses and then have someone point you in the right direction to overcome that weakness through research, practice, and constantly study the area you're lacking in?

But the worst thing is that 'learners' always end up admitting that it's too hard and they need help, in other words, they want you to do the work for them. Everybody that I've tried to teach aren't even good until now because the ignore every bit of their assignment. And you say that you've found that it can help, but I'm asking now if you can show me anybody that has taken part in a spriting school and has improved.

I've never seen his sprites, but his pixel art in particular is a highlight.
