Like the title says, I've finally got some free time, but I can't get any sprites looking halfway decent sad dunno what's up with me lately but every time I try to do a character, it starts looking shitty real quick and then I lose motivation to work on it. Any ideas for breaking out of it, besides the advice I myself usually give for takin a short break?

I know the exact feeling that you're describing there.
If it doesn't look good from the start, I lose motivation, and delete it or something.
I took a brake afterwards, but the same happened again. This process kinda kept looping, until a few days ago. I just started something. It looked shitty in the beginning, trust me. I felt the same decreasing motivation as always, but instead of giving up, I told myself I'd work on it until it looked good to me. I said, no rush, just take your time, but don't give up. And actually, it worked.
Things like taking a break or playing games doesn't work out for me, so I don't give that advice.
Of course, you're not me, so maybe it does work for you.
The only thing I can say is, try to find something you really want to sprite, but really.
And then tell yourself you shouldn't give up smile

When I want to get back into my art, it doesn't happen overnight. What tends to happen is that something that I hear or see moves me to make something relating to it. That's just me. Just give yourself some time until you're actually moved by something instead of forcing yourself.

Hm... alright, thanks guys happy I have had some things I've been wanting to sprite for awhile now. Maybe I'll give those a shot, see how they look.

Just make sure you don't rush yourself. Take your time, don't force yourself, there is no deadline or anything. You have all the time to make your work look good, so no pressure biggrin
